可是,刚刚两个月过去,他乔治就又回来了!他知道他的朋友们都会赶脚很奇怪:不是刚刚参加了他的告别派对吗?我不是刚从这家伙那里买了书架吗?I thought you were sick of China. What convinced you to come back?(你不是对中国不感冒到腻味了吗,肿么又回来啦?)
——住在父母家的地下室里的随时受不了,e.g.老妈的唠叨:When are you going to get a job? When are you going to move out of the basement? Did you take $40 from the cash drawer? etc.
——遇上不爽的事用英语发牢骚说几句脏话,却忘记了周围这帮家伙也能听得懂。
更重要的原因是,乔治回到了自己的祖国再也体会不到在北京时作为老外所享受的特殊关注和关照。于是,在一天被老妈逼着清扫了自己蜗居的地下室之后,饱受反向文化震荡的乔治经过反思,终于明白了: Sure, you can get ice water everywhere, but what good is that when you can’t hire an ayi to clean your room for you?(没错,在这里到处有冰水,可是一个你都无法雇阿姨为你打扫地下室的国度到底有什么好)?
地下室里,痛定思痛的乔治又从抽屉了拿了老妈的一点美刀,义无反顾地买了去中国的单程票这么又回来了。
It’s nice to be back.他赶脚着只有这里才适应他这种屌丝:再也不用给小费啦,不受餐馆伙计的白眼啦,又可以自由下载音乐啦,又可以不用钢镚啦。教富家孩子学英语一个小时三百块,这么好的事就是让我从此能登陆Youtube和Facebook也不换滴。
